Why lateral flow diagnostics?

The rise and rise of lateral flow diagnostics across many industry sectors demonstrates the versatility of the technology.   As the principle of lateral flow diagnostics has become so well established, developers have been pushing the technology to extract more and more value from the relatively low cost, easy to use device.

There have been several significant advances to progress the humble LFD to the advanced diagnostic tool we see today.  As the levels of sensitivity and performance have been driven upwards, so too has the need for greater attention to detail in the manufacture.  Reducing intra- and inter-batch variation has become essential as the limits of detection decrease so that real results are not masked by performance fluctuations. 

Observing the LFD scene today, it is clear that evolution of lateral flow technologies is taking place.  Increases in sensitivity; a broadening of the range of targets; precise and reliable quantitative assays; and the expansion into nucleic acid detection are all indicative of a strong future for lateral flow devices. 

Forsite is an active player in the LFD story.  We maintain a presence in the research field so that we can incorporate developments into the tests we manufacture for customers.  Some of our customers are well-versed in LFDs and developing tests using the latest developments.  Other customers of ours have come to know LFDs more recently and still exploring opportunities.
